Jemima-Helen Invited to City Hall Remembrance Day Service
Sixth former attends annual event with Mayor of London
Sixth-form student Jemima-Helen Tshondo was invited to attend the Remembrance Day service at City Hall on Friday 8th November, where she met up with Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London, and other dignitaries.
Jemima-Helen, who is Vice-Chair of the London Youth Assembly as well as Lead Ambassador of the Croydon Youth Assembly (not to mention Deputy Head Girl here at Norbury High), joined an esteemed audience of guests for the livestreamed service which was hosted by the Greater London Authority, London Assembly and the City Hall branch of the Royal British Legion.
The annual ceremony at City Hall took place ahead of national tributes which were observed at 11.00 on Remembrance Day - 11th November - across the UK.
The 60-minute service included readings, prayers and hymns. A two-minute silence at 11.00 was followed by a wreath-laying ceremony.
Jemima-Helen said of the experience, "I stood alongside the Mayor of London which was such a privilege." She described the event as "really lovely and very moving."
"I felt so honoured to have been part [of it]", she added, "and to represent young people at such [an] important occasion."
