Norbury Manor has been named Croydon Secondary School of the Year 2019.

The prize was presented at the Croydon Council Awards ceremony on Thursday 28th November. 

The award tops off a fantastic year at the Thornton Heath academy which was recently placed in the top 15% of state-funded secondaries in the country by the Department for Education as well as ranking third best in the borough.

Amanda Compton, Headteacher and CEO of The Manor Trust, who attended the awards ceremony with Mary Turner, Chair of the school's local governing body, said: "First and foremost, I must mention our students, whose enthusiasm, vibrancy and willingness to learn make working in this school such a privilege. But it's equally important to say that receiving this award would not have been possible without all the effort our staff put in to supporting, developing and educating our girls; it is testament to their dedication."

The school was praised for its “excellent academic results" with "GCSE English and maths well above the national average” but also for the "wealth of opportunities for pupils to enrich their studies as well as their personal and social development."

The panel recognised that students participate in "a range of high quality expressive arts projects, a host of musical and sports activities and charity fund raising events” which helps to create "a vibrant and happy environment in which to thrive and learn."
