Emma Stevens: Inspirational Teacher of the Year
Music Teacher's Work Recognised With Jack Petchey Prize
A Norbury Manor teacher has won the Jack Petchey Foundation Award for Inspirational Teacher of the Year.
Emma Stevens (pictured with the award, below), who leads the school choirs at Norbury Manor, received the award in recognition for her work as part of a hard-working and ambitious music department.
Over the years, Ms Stevens has worked closely with former alumni including Lianne La Havas and Roxanne Tataei and helped students access and enjoy a range of quality extracurricular learning opportunities.
In 2015, the school's Celeste choir, led by Ms Stevens, performed live with Lianne La Havas at the Royal Albert Hall and in 2018 the school choir toured Barcelona.
Ms Stevens was presented with the award, together with a cheque for £1,000, by the Education Secretary, Damien Hinds, and George Osborne, editor of the Evening Standard, at the newspaper's London offices on Thursday evening.
Amanda Compton, Headteacher, said: "Emma is a worthy winner after all the work she has put into delivering quality music provision in this school and inspiring our students. I know the money will come in useful for the Music Department and for this we extend our gratitude not only to Emma but to the Jack Petchey Foundation."
